A 14-day revision timetable with room for rest
To build a 14-day revision timetable, put exams and fixed commitments in first. Choose small study tasks for the time left, return to important topics on later days, and leave room for breaks and sleep. Adapt the example below to your subjects and available time.
Start with these five decisions
You do not need fourteen empty days. You need a plan that fits around lessons, shifts, travel, caring, and the energy you have. A piece of paper or an ordinary calendar is enough.
This is a practical planning method, not a tested treatment for anxiety or a promise that two weeks is enough to cover every course. Use the parts that help.
- Write down each exam date and the subjects or papers it covers. Check the official information rather than relying on a group chat.
- Mark time already taken by lessons, work, travel, meals, caring, and sleep. Leave some unallocated space for things that change.
- Choose a few topics to work on first, using your syllabus and recent practice answers to identify gaps.
- Give each available study slot one task with an end, such as answering three algebra questions and checking the solutions.
- Add a later return to important topics, a break between study slots, and a finishing time. Review the plan as you learn what needs attention.
How do you choose what to revise first?
Put your syllabus, teacher guidance, and one recent piece of marked work beside the timetable. Instead of writing only "biology", name the part you will practise: "draw and label a cell, then check the missing labels".
If you have no marked work, try a few representative questions from an official practice paper. Use the answers to decide what needs attention. If the material is unfamiliar, learn the basic idea first; repeated guessing is not a substitute for understanding.
Give earlier exams attention, but do not leave every later subject untouched. This is a judgment about your deadlines and gaps, not a formula for predicting which questions will appear.

What should one study block look like?
Make the task small enough to finish or stop at a sensible point. For example: "Solve three linear equations, check the answers, and note the step I keep missing." If that is too much today, start with one equation.
After learning something, trying to bring it to mind without looking is called retrieval practice. A major review rated practice testing and spreading study across sessions as useful learning techniques. A later classroom meta-analysis also found learning benefits from quizzing, with results depending on factors such as the task and feedback. These findings do not guarantee an exam mark or relief from anxiety. [1] [2]
There is no required timer setting. You might try twenty minutes and a short break as an initial experiment, then adjust it. A finished task or your available time can be the limit instead. NHS guidance recommends manageable revision chunks and regular short breaks. [4]
- Choose: pick a small task and have a reliable answer or mark scheme ready.
- Try: close your notes and work from memory where the task allows. For unfamiliar material, study an explanation first.
- Check: compare with the answer. Correct a specific gap rather than just recording a score.
- Return: put a short follow-up on a later day. End the block and take the break you planned.
A worked two-week revision timetable
This is an invented example, not a real student case or a research schedule. Sam has maths on day 15, biology on day 17, and history on day 19. They have classes on weekdays and work on days 3 and 10. Their available time varies; no row is a daily minimum.
Sam is practising equations, cell structure, and causes of the First World War. These are selected priority tasks, not a whole syllabus. They will keep planning for biology and history after this fortnight.
Each day has a stopping point. "Optional" means leave it out when there is no room. A short day or a day off does not need to be repaid at night.

Why return to a topic on another day?
Studying a topic across separate sessions is called spaced or distributed practice. A 2025 meta-analysis of classroom studies found an average learning advantage over concentrating study into one period. The studies differed, so this does not identify one ideal gap for every learner, subject, or exam. [3]
Sam revisits equations on days 1, 3, and 6. Those dates are an illustration, not prescribed intervals. If an answer is still difficult, you could bring the next check forward. When you can answer accurately, use a later brief check.
Return to the content, not just the timetable. A useful return could be one question without notes followed by checking, rather than starting a whole chapter again.
Where do breaks and rest go?
Write them into the timetable before the blank spaces fill up. A break might mean putting the work aside, having a drink, stretching if comfortable, or spending a few quiet minutes in the same room. You do not need a separate room or money to pause.
Leave space for meals, ordinary responsibilities, and time away from revision. Keep a finishing point that leaves room for sleep. Reserving that time is a planning choice; there is no universal rest-to-study ratio here.
If you share a room or cannot control the noise, choose tasks that fit the setting. A small question sheet may be more practical than a full timed paper. Asking a tutor about an available study space is another option, not a requirement.
What if you miss a day?
Keep the dates you already have. Do not move every unfinished task forward automatically; that can leave tomorrow with more work than time.
Suppose Sam misses biology on day 5. They could use some unallocated time on day 7, shorten it to two questions, or replace a less urgent task. Choose based on what is still needed, not on completing every box.
- Choose the single unfinished task that still matters most.
- Move it only into a real available slot, shrink it, or let it go.
- Keep tomorrow's first task specific. Resume without redesigning the fortnight.
Can you use this with five days or short gaps?
Yes. Use the same decisions over the days remaining. Do not squeeze fourteen rows into five days. Identify the nearest exam and a few important gaps, practise those, and leave time to check answers and prepare the essentials.
A brief task after a shift could be recalling three definitions and checking them. If interrupted, leave a note showing the next step. Do not revise during driving or any task that needs your full attention.
If there is no workable study time, a timetable alone cannot fix that. Consider asking your teacher, tutor, or student support service to help prioritize the workload or explore support. You do not need to finish the plan before asking.

Fill in fixed commitments first, then write one main task per day where time allows. Add a later return to a topic and a stopping point. Use the daily sheet when you want detail; you do not have to fill it out every day.
These instructions also work with plain paper or a calendar. Printing is optional. Keep personal notes somewhere you are comfortable leaving them.
When the timetable is not enough
If distress or difficulty starting keeps getting in the way, consider talking with someone you trust or a relevant support service. NHS exam guidance encourages asking for support when feeling stressed. [4]
You could say: "I have made a plan, but I am still struggling to start. Can you help me choose what matters most for this exam?" Change the message to fit your situation.
